Camden Haven Community College, with support from a Commonwealth Government grant, set up a Community Garden at Apex Park in Laurieton in 2010.
The Department of Lands and Port Macquarie Hastings Council allowed the use of their land for the garden site, with the Council contributing funds via a community grant.
Bunnings provided some of the initial equipment and local Clubs (LUSC & North Haven Bowling Club) assist with donations for garden supplies.
The garden enables us to provide training and modelling in sustainable land care and provides a catalyst for stimulating social interaction and encouraging self-reliance and producing nutritious food.
The College has gained some wonderful garden volunteers over the years who have helped with the maintenance and upkeep of the Community Garden. Their continued hard work and dedication has seen the garden thrive with life and an abundance of produce!
You will find a basket on the garden fence which the volunteers use to place freshly harvested vegetables for the community to take home for free. This is for everyone, and we ask that you please be thoughtful in only taking your fair share.
